Quanta Unveils Android Smartbook
November 19th, 2009 by Dana Wollman
Qualcomm held an event in London earlier today, and among other devices, showed off a Quanta smartbook running the Android OS. It’s a prototype, so we don’t have too many details on specs, much less pricing, to share. This early iteration, though, runs on the Snapdragon processor and, because it doesn’t have a fan, is particularly slim (the video at the link, courtesy of Slashgear, gives us a glimpse of how thin it is). In their hands-on, Slashgear found that this smartbook is about the size of a netbook, save for its thinness. Although the keyboard is full-size, however, they found that the unsturdy, too-flexible keyboard panel was a problem. They seemed disappointed that the machine lacks a touchscreen, but pointed out that there are keys on the keyboard that give users one-touch access to the home screen, as well as settings, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G.
