Re 3G choice: since I am already a Verizon customer, this makes the P more interestubg to me, however, it is still hugely short-sighted not to unlock the Gobi chip's abilitiy to work with either GSM or CDMA technology per the customer's choice. What happened to that "customer focus" in this respect?

Also, the Vista installation is another thing to give pause - I won't really consider this until I see a Linux version that will work with all the hardware as well as "Easy Peasy" does on my Asus EEE 900A - quite adequate for my uses of an ultraportable, but I sure would like to get that NEC MobilePro form factor of the P with its quantum leap in hardware capabilities, and that lovely Trackpoint (I HATE touchy touchpads!). My "desktop" experience is Linux (with a mouse), not any variety of Windows except for my job, and that is quite enough exposure!

I own a Sony Vaio U101 and UX180p. I am definitely adding this mini baby to my list of items to buy. Like my prior small vaios, I will most likely remote desktop to my Mac and use apps running on my Mac.

Fabulous! The fantastic innovation capability of SONY ( Systematically Overpriced, Nevertheless Yaaaaawn) brings back the Psion 15 years later! Kudos for introducing instant-on OS, a thing that's also a huge step forward compared to that same old machine ;-)

Unfortunately, locking the device to Verizon will keep a lot of people from buying this unit, myself included.

If I could use it with my existing AT&T data account, I'd have bought one today, but I'm not going to add a $175 early termination fee with AT&T and sign up to a new 2 year contract with Verizon for this thing.

A poor choice, IMHO.
