Pope Talks Social Networking
January 24th, 2011 by Anna Attkisson, LAPTOP Managing Editor
Social networking is not the work of the devil, according to the Pope himself. At least he didn’t mention anything about the devil in this morning’s statement titled “Trust, proclamation and authenticity of life in the digital age.
Pope Benedict XVI even went so far as to offer a blessing with conditions to social networks. He praised the possibilities that new types of media and social networks offer, calling them a “great opportunity” and a “sign of an authentic search for personal encounters with others”.
But, still warned that the virtually connected world can lead to self-indulgence and alienation. His statement went on to say that, “It is important always to remember that virtual contact cannot and must not take the place of direct human contact with people at every level of our lives.”
