BMW and Harman Demo “World’s Most Advanced” Infotainment System

BMW and Harman are here at CES for the North American debut of their new ConnectedDrive infotainment system, and it’s looking rather slick. The system, which Harman claims is the “world’s most advanced,” features a 1280 x 480-pixel display and is powered by a 1.3-GHz processor.

With that kind of power Harman says the system’s navigation feature is capable of rendering 3D, birds-eye view models of cities and offers weather forecasts and location-based services. Harman boasts that its navigation system offers a “one-shot” entry action that allows users to type in the city, street and address of a destination in what the company describes as “one natural sequence.”

Further features include the ability to dictate short emails, texts and memos that can be emailed instantly using your phone’s data connection. BMW also incorporates its own iPhone app within the ConnectedDrive system’s head unit that Harman says gives users the ability to access Facebook and Internet radio stations among other Web-connected services. The new ConnectedDrive infotainment system will be available in U.S. BMW’s 3-, 5- and 7-series vehicles in the coming months.

Stay tuned for our hands-on with Harman and BMW’s ConnectedDrive system live from the show floor here at CES.
