Social Deals
Though social deal apps such as Groupon are more readily associated with saving yourself some dough than finding great gifts, these services make it easy to buy your loved ones a deeply discounted night out—or even a four-night stay in Los Cabos. Because most social shopping apps target deals to users based on their zip code, you can give those on your shopping list a truly local experience.
Android, iOS
BuyWithMe delivers a similar variety of discounts to Groupon and LivingSocial, but deals are only available in 13 U.S. cities. On the plus side, you get a full week to decide whether to purchase a deal, and if three of your friends buy the deal as well, you don’t have to pay anything.
Groupon
Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Phone
Stay up to date with Groupon’s Daily Deals, Getaway travel deals, and Now! real-time deals with the coupon giant’s app. In addition to finding location-based offers to purchase, you can keep track of your unused Groupons—so you don’t forget to redeem them before their expiration dates.
LivingSocial
Android, iOS
LivingSocial delivers daily deals to its app, letting bargain hunters in more than 350 U.S. cities purchase directly from their smartphone. For those who have already bought deals through the app, LivingSocial boasts a map to show users if they have coupons to use at any nearby bars or restaurants.
ShopKick
Android, iOS
It might not be social in the same way as Groupon and Living Social, but ShopKick gets you discounts for simply visiting stores in person. Each time you walk into a participating retailer’s location and open the app, you’ll be rewarded with “kicks.” Users can redeem kicks for gift cards or restaurant vouchers and even save up for high-end prizes such as a Sony Bravia HDTV.
