Palm Pixi Reviewed: Supersleek and Smart, Needs More Speed
November 12th, 2009 by Mark Spoonauer
We just posted our full review of the Palm Pixi ($0.01) ($99 through Sprint), and this smart phone has a lot going for it. What impresses me most is how thin and light the Pixi is; at 3.3 ounces and 0.43 inches thick , it’s actually thinner that the original Motorola RAZR and just as light. And yet Palm managed to cram in a nice capacitive touchscreen and a better keyboard than the Pre–and you don’t have to slide anything to access it.
We also like that you get a real browser (unlike most BlackBerrys), free GPS navigation (with the data plan), and all the little improvements webOS 1.3.1 brings, including the addition of Yahoo to contacts and the calendar.
Our biggest beef with the Pixi is its sluggish performance. At times the smart phone struggled to keep up with the multitasking-frienldy webOS, especially when notifications were coming in. The Pixi’s screen is also smaller than the Pre’s, and the device lacks Wi-Fi. Do the Pixi’s positive attributes outweigh the drawbacks? Check out our full review and tell us what you think.
