Palm may be developing a 4G/WiMax handset for Sprint
March 2nd, 2010 by Marc Flores
Palm had such a breakthrough year in 2009 with its Pre and Pixi handsets as well as webOS. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save Palm or to keep it in the running with manufacturers like Motorola and HTC. Last week, Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein issued a memo to his team about the company’s lackluster performance with a somewhat uplifting outlook on the future. What can Palm possibly do at this point to keep itself from total collapse?
Sprint and Palm have had a great working relationship and rumors say that Palm will be making a WiMax handset for the carrier. This would work perfectly in conjunction with Sprint’s plan to activate WiMax service in several cities later this year. This particular rumor is shaky at best, but it would be exactly what Palm needs to kick it back into gear. WiMax is already live in select cities and it is lighting fast – couple this with new hardware from a company that can crank out good handsets, along with webOS, and things might not look so gloomy for Palm after all.
