Oprah Does Webcams and Skype

Ooma might have Ashton Kutcher, but Skype has gotten one of the most powerful women in the world to put her good name behind VoIP.
Skype is in-part sponsoring a web event on Oprah.com. They are helping to facilitate ten weekly segments of Oprah.com’s “A New Earth” Web Event discussing Eckhart Tolle’s book: “A New Earth: Get Ready To Be Awakened.”
Each week starting today, March 3, Oprah.com will broadcast a live web event focused on a chapter of this book, during which Oprah and the author, Eckhart Tolle, will answer questions live from select participants using Skype High Quality Video calling.
Towards the end of each segment, Oprah and Eckhart will be taking video questions using Skype’s High Quality Video. According to Jim Courtney of Skype Journal:
From all the questions submitted, Harpo, the producer, has selected several for a response during the seminar. Those asking the questions have been equipped with the requisite Logitech cameras and dual core PC’s such that they can use Skype’s High Quality Video. Obviously a significant logistics operation here; it will be interesting to watch and see what level of spontaneity is afforded by this arrangement.
As a long time Skype fan, I am just happy to hear that Oprah has joined the crowd. By the way, my search for Oprah in the Skype directory turned up empty!

Uh. Maybe your search came up empty because you spelled her name wrong
not that she’d list herself under her name anyway, given all the people who’d be trying to connect…
