OLO: iPhone Turned Netbook?
October 12th, 2008 by Joanna Stern
Chances of Apple announcing a small-form factor netbook at its notebook event this week are as good as Sarah Palin cutting the word “maverick” out of her vocabulary. But OLO Computer seems to be set on creating an interesting notebook using the king of Apple’s mobile products: the iPhone.
ITWire spotted the ambitious company that plans to create a Palm Foleo or RedFly like device. From the limited picture and information on the OLO Computer Web site (which leads us to think a photoshoping media prankster is behind this all) is showing off an iPhone powered notebook/netbook, where the iPhone fits into the trackpad area and perhaps is the brains of the notebook itself. The image indicates that the OLO runs a desktop version of Mac OS X, and not the iPhone OS.
Seems pretty cool, but of course there is “no launch date for the OLO Computer as yet, nor any true specs, pricing or other info besides the image,” according to ITWire.
The idea is an interesting one, especially given my argument that Apple won’t release a sub-$600 netbook because of the impact it might have on iPhone sales. Now a netbook that needed the iPhone would be clever.
