Notion Ink Adam Early Verdict: Buggy Software and Meh Screens

January 25th, 2011 by K. T. Bradford

The first users started getting their Notion Ink Adam tablets a little while ago and CrunchGear rounded up their first impressions and reviews today. Most consumers are having trouble with the Eden interface and find it laggy. A downloadable software update seems to have fixed some problems for those who’ve done it so far. However, one of the users has already ditched Eden in favor of stock Android and seems happier overall.

A couple of users have specifically noted that the screen isn’t as responsive as they hoped. A few aren’t at all happy with the Pixel Qi screen in reflective mode, though in at least one case that could be due to a broken unit. And wireless connectivity issues abound.

Reading through all this prompted Matt Burns to say “At this point I hope our unit doesn’t come.”

Click over to CrunchGear for videos and links to the many forum posts. A new wave of shipments will bring a new wave of hands-on posts. But so far, the Adam isn’t impressing.

Well, umm…what did everyone expect? Anytime you’re dealing with new, unproven technology, you shouldn’t really expect more. I wonder how long these devices typically last considering the main draw to the screen tech is better battery life.
