Noses On With ASUS’s Smelly F6V Notebook

September 17th, 2008 by Todd Haselton

In a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute post not too long ago, we first introduced you to ASUS’s new line of F6V scented notebooks, all while resisting calling them Smell-EeePCs. The notebooks are available in floral blossom, morning dew, blue ocean, and dark musk scents, and today our noses had the pleasure of sniffing the floral blossom.

Joanna Stern was right: the floral blossom one did smell kind of like a scratch and sniff sticker, although it smelled a bit more like vanilla plastic than anything.

The scents are activated through sunlight and there’s special oil built into the lid material that actually carries the smell, which is supposed to last up to 6 months. After that, there aren’t any refills.

The oddest thing was actually passing the notebook around the room and watching people sniff it. Who actually needs a scented laptop? Smelly people or at least people that like to sniff things, we guess.

ASUS said these won’t be hitting the mainstream market at all. In fact, only a few hundred were made and they were picked up by an independent retailer.

Just in case you want to hunt one of these scented babies down, here’s another glance at the specs:
