Nokia’s rumored 6-inch Lumia 1520 appears to have a launch date. The massive Windows Phone 8 handset, which would be the first to sport a 6-inch, 1080p display, as well as the latest version of Windows Phone 8, is reportedly on course for a Sept. 26 launch. The news comes courtesy of the @EVLeaks Twitter account, which has an impressive record of reporting rumors that are eventually proven correct.
Should the rumor hold true, the Lumia 1520 would be the first handset to launch with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. That update is expected to support 1080 displays, as well as a new Drive Mode and screen rotation option. The Lumia 1520 will also reportedly be the first Windows Phone 8 device with a quad-core processor, putting it more on a par with top-of-the-line Android handsets, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Lending credence to the @EVLeaks rumor is the fact that the Lumia’s reported launch date matches up with a separate rumor that Nokia will host an event in New York on Sept. 26. That show is also expected to serve as the unveiling for Nokia’s first Windows RT tablet. The rumored slate will reportedly feature a 10-inch, 1080p display and pack a 2.15-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.
