Nokia Lumia 1020: 41-MP Camera Phone Hits AT&T July 26th for $299

Nokia Lumia 1020 AT&T

Coming to AT&T July 26th for $299, the Nokia Lumia 1020 promises to blow other smartphone cameras out of the water. This Windows Phone packs a 41-MP backside illuminated sensor and six lenses, delivering unrivaled image quality both in daylight and low-light conditions. Thanks to oversampling technology, Nokia claims that users will enjoy the sharpest pictures possible. This oversampling also lets you zoom into or out of photos after you take them. In other words, you can shoot first and zoom later.

If you’re worried about whether you’ll be able to share these high-res images, the Lumia 1020 aptures 5-MP photos at the same time to share photos on social networks. Second-generation optical image stabilization results in blur-free photos and videos, even if you’re in a moving boat. The price is fairly steep, but the shutterbugs will probably be pretty psyched.

A powerful Xenon flash is so fast that it can freeze moving subjects. During the launch event, Nokia showed its own images side by side with shots taken by the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4, whose shots turned out blurry.

A new Nokia Pro Camera app offers a host of advanced features, complete with its own tutorials. You can exchanges exposure, white balance, ISO and more. You’ll receive real-time feedback of what your picture is going to look like. There’s also a manual focus feature. With manual exposure settings you can get creative with shots.

Other features include Creative Studio for editing and Photo Beaming for sharing, as well as a Panorama mode. Nokia also announced a Developers SDK to help app makers leverage the Lumia 1020′s camera prowess. CNN, Yelp, Foursquare, Flipboard and Path are all on board. Hipstamatic will debut its new oggl app exclusively for the Lumia 1020.

The Lumia 1020 will come with an optional grip case with an additional battery, which you can attach to a tripod. Last but not least is an optional wireless charging case.

As Windows Phone device, Nokia offers its own Music, Here Maps, and Here Drive for navigation. Plus, you’ll be able to access more than 165,000 apps in the Windows Store. With City Lens you can find businesses around you using augmented reality, but now you can pause and zoom in on the live view, as well perform searches.
