No Hackintoshing Allowed
January 14th, 2009 by K. T. Bradford
Brien X. Chen of Wired posted a video not too long ago demonstrating how to turn an MSI Wind into a Hackintosh. There was, of course, a disclaimer stating that the process possibly violated Apple’s copyright. But he also tells readers where to find the hacked OS for the operation. According to Brian’s Twitterfeed, Apple is not happy.
Obviously this information is not only available on Wired blogs and obviously Apple can’t stop all hackintoshers from doing what they do. (Unless they bring out a netbook, maybe.) But I suspect they’re a bit miffed that Wired — which is more than just a collection of blogs, it’s an established member of the tech press — would be so explicit about how to go about breaking their copyright. As others have pointed out, it probably won’t escalate beyond a cease and desist order.
