Nexus S 4G Hitting Sprint for $199, Google Voice Fully Integrated
March 21st, 2011 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief
There are Google phones, and then there are GOOGLE phones. The Samsung Nexus S 4G for Sprint doesn’t just add 4G capability (which the T-Mobile version lacked); the carrier says it’S integrating Google Voice directly into the network. When the device launches this spring for $199, Nexus S 4G users will be able to use their Sprint number as their Google Voice number, allowing them to manage up to six different phones through a single line. You’ll also enjoy features like call screening, call recording, and voicemail transcriptions.
Of course, the Nexus S 4G has a lot of other things going for it, including a curved 4-inch Contour Display backed by Samsung’s Super AMOLED tech, an NFC chip for reading info off of stickers and posters (and eventually for making mobile payments), a 1-GHz processor, and dual cameras (5-MP camera in back, VGA up front). Unfortunately, you still don’t get 720p video recording–it’s 720 x 480. But overall the Nexus S 4G looks like a solid Android phone for Sprint customers who don’t want to wait forever for the latest OS updates.
