DigiTimes is reporting that Asus has ordered samples of display components for a new generation of Eee PCs, to come in 8,9, and 10-inch configurations. The 9-inch model is rumored to be a touchscreen. Engadget also reports that Asus representatives told them about new models with 7, 8, and 9-inch screens back at CES. A touchscreen would be a nice added bonus, but if the rumors are true, Asus will finally address the biggest usability problem with the Eee PC, its tiny screen. Hopefully, the larger displays will come with something higher than the meager 800×400 resolution available on the current generation of Eee PCs and on the rival Everex Cloudbook. Because most people surf the Web at resolutions of 1024×768 or higher, a lot of sites are wider than the current Eee PC’s screen can display, forcing users to scroll horizontally while they’re reading. I’ve been dying to get an Eee PC since I saw our demo model here in the office, but I keep waiting to see if Asus will come out with a higher-res version. These rumors are definitely encouraging.
