New Earbuds for Kids Turn Down the Volume

When you can hear the music your kids are listening to even when they have headphones on, you know it’s too loud. Electronics manufacturer iEssentials today announced RoboBuds, a line of colorful earbuds designed for kids that limit volume to 85 decibels. Eighty-five decibels is equivalent to traffic noise while inside a car and a phone’s average dial tone. Normal conversation hovers between 60 and 70 decibels.“Parents can let their children turn the music up as loud as they want but the volume will never rise to a level that hurts their children’s hearing,” Mike Mizrahi, the product’s creative director, said in a statement.
Each set features a colorful anime-style robot character that slides up and down the cord, so kids can adjust the fit. The earbuds are compatible with any device that has a standard headphone jack, including iPods and iPhones. Priced at $10, RoboBuds will debut at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January.
