Netbook Madness Game 13: Samsung NC10 vs. Asus EeePC S101
April 3rd, 2009 by Michael A. Prospero, LAPTOP Reviews Editor
We’re now down to the final four netbooks in our first annual Netbook Madness tournament as decided by you, the reader. The first game in today’s doubleheader is the Samsung NC10 vs. the Asus EeePC S101. The NC10 got to this point by defeating the Asus Eee PC 1002HA in the first round, and the Lenovo S10e in the second round. The Asus Eee PC S101 is an unlikely semifinalist, having knocked over the Samsung NC20 in the first round, and the MSI Wind U100 in the second round. If you’ve been following the tournament, or know your netbooks, you know that we like the NC10 for its battery life and keyboard, and the S101 for its bling. Here’s the tale of the tape: Name NC10 EeePC S101 CPU: 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270 RAM: 1GB (2GB max) 1GB (2GB max) Hard Drive: 160GB, 5,400-rpm 16GB SSD (30GB online) Screen: 10.2″ (1024 x 600) 10.2″ (1024 x 600) Size: 10.3 x 7.3 x 1.2 inches 10.3 x 7.0 x 0.7 inches Weight: 2.8 pounds 2.4 pounds Battery life: 6:34 (6-cell) 3:32 (2-cell) Price (Amazon): $425 $560 So, we leave it up to you – which netbook should be in the final, to be played on Monday? Update: And it’s the NC10. By a lot.

Go Sammy!

Yep thought the battle would end up between those two. It was the two choices for me also and opted for the Sammy NC10.
And just added the Samsung ultra-slim DVD drive and loving the combo.

samsung nc10 is cool, but honestly the s101 is so much nicer. the only bad thing is the price. but id take a s101 any day if it wre the same price as a nc10

S101 so much nicer? How so? Small 16GB SSD and a 2-cell giving less overall battery life, all while being the most expensive netbook on the market. I don’t think that classifies as “so much nicer”. If you mean aesthetically, I guess some people find the S101 to be attractive but I can’t say I’m one of them. It’s only because “someone” using a voting bot in the last match with the S101 that it is here. Gaining over 2000 votes in less than 20 minutes, do you think EVERYONE is that clueless?

Samsung NC10 is unmatched compared to that S101.

Come on people grow up it is not fair to play games with the numbers 281,725 votes for the NC10.
Give me a break.
You have just made us NC10 owner’s appear childish and cheater’s and now the NC10 will have to forfeit.

well there you have it — 300,000 people prefer the NC10!
or is it just the 4 that posted above running a script on greasemonkey all weekend??
guess it means the NC10 is crap even in the eyes of its own fanboys — otherwise why cheat?

Well I’ve given my 1 vote to the NC10. It’s a shame polls like this tend to be subject to rigging, it’s just supposed to be a bit of fun!

Asus 1000HE will be the champion. We all know it will head that way.

It seems Samsung have listened to its customers, as they have fixed the issue with the netbook running a little hot, by improving airflow beneath and around the NC10. One of the most important aspects of a netbook, or any portable technology to be honest, is the battery life. It doesn’t matter how powerful the machine, as if the battery is dead, you can not use it.

I bought my NC10 three years ago as it was without doubt the best of the bunch. I use it every day. Its been charged over 1,000 times and the battery still lasts 3.5 hours with no power saving and max screen brightness.
Its still a very good netbook.
