How does n-Trig expects us to believe on their continued support when it fails to deliver a simple wintab-compatible driver for its decent share of graphic designers to be able to use pressure sensitivity in major apps like Photoshop and Painter? Such a joke.. -_-

I'm reminded of the glossy control panels all over the Star Trek universe. Then again, the computer's voice recognition was so much easier to use. Combine voice with a heads-up display on glasses and retina scanning to control a mouse cursor....

other thought:
Fingerprints!! AAAAGGHH!!
(Glossy touchscreens are not acceptable. Got that, developers?)

Not gonna happen. Sure I want a large-format iPod touch style tablet to use on the couch in front of the TV, and I want a touchscreen computer in the kitchen for light web browsing, shared calendars, etc. But for the majority of my use, I'd still be using a keyboard and mouse on a desktop or laptop where I would have no use whatsoever for touch. At least not on the screen. I do want multi-touch support on the trackpad of my laptop of course...

1) The keyboard is faster when you learn the commands. Doing any complex or repetitive task with a mouse or touch takes a much longer time unless you have a button or gesture for each and every possible combination of tasks, and that just isn't feasible. Mice/touch are for specialized interfaces (small devices, maps, drawing, CAD) and are more welcoming for newbies.

2) If he has such high expectations for touch screens, I hope he's willing to invest millions in OCR technology. Imagine trying to search for text when all of your files are saved as pictures and each person has a different style of handwriting. Imagine if people write their documents in cursive! Imagine Googling for text within them. Every document produced using touch would have to be converted to UTF text before it could be used in any database. Using it for text is not feasible in the long run.

3) Desktop touchscreens will quickly tire your arms unless the monitor is flat on the desk surface, but then it wouldn't be ergonomic for long-term use. Users would always be hunched over. Monitors would have to be redesigned, possibly by tiltling them back like an animator's or drafter's desk, but that doesn't seem to me like it would be comfortable, either. Its use in group presentations or classroom teaching, however, would be ideal--you can already see some benefits by watching how CNN uses their "magic wall".

Just like other input devices, touch screens will simply offer an _alternative_ input method, not the best one. The other input devices or interfaces mimicking them would still be necessary. It's a balance between easy but slow analog interaction and quick but complex digital organization.
