Rumors have floated around the web regarding a new handset from Motorola with an unusual form factor, and it’s finally here. The Motorola Flipout is a touchscreen Android handset that, well, flips out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s an interesting design and we’re wondering if it will catch on, but it certainly isn’t light on features or options. It comes in several colors including Licorice, Fairway Green, Raspberry Crush, Brilliant Blue, Poppy Red, Saffron or White – plenty to choose from.
The handset also runs a modified version of Motoblur, Motorola’s user interface for Android. Best of all, the handset is running Android 2.1 so you’ll get the benefits of all the applications that run on the latest OS (Android 2.2 is out, but has been pushed only to a number of Nexus One users). Looking at the form factor and color options of this phone, we’re thinking tweens and teens might get a little excited for this social networking device. There’s no word on when it will become available in the U.S., but it has officially launched in Latin America and Europe.
