Motorola Droid X vs. HTC Evo 4G
July 19th, 2010 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief Overall Winner

Just to be clear, we’re big fans of both the Droid X and Evo 4G, which is why we gave them each an Editors’ Choice Award. When you look at the scorecard for this face-off, however, the Droid X wins (barely). It notched an overall score of 11 to the Evo 4G’s 10. Both devices tied in a number of categories, including design, web browsing, specs and performance, included apps, and pricing and value.
Where the Droid X really shined was its crisper and brighter display, faster 3G data performance, better camera and camcorder, and longer battery life. The Evo 4G’s biggest selling points are its 4G capability, more elegant and intuitive interface, and front-facing camera for video chats. For smart phone shoppers, it comes down to what features you care about most–but the point of this journey is to pick a winner. So…
If Sprint’s 4G network were more widespread, this battle might have gone the other way, despite the Evo 4G’s shorter endurance. However, right now the Droid X is the better of the two devices.

I was lucky enough to get a Droid X and this phone is amazing. I was worried about its size but it is not too big. Swype is great for texts and the phone runs super fast..

If you ever plan to use custom ROMs do not purchase the Droid X. This whole idea of the aptly named “e-fuse” technology that bricks the device on any attempt to install “untested” software is a slap in the face of the android community and the developers who have worked so hard to make open source mobile development a reality. Even if you don’t think that you’ll ever use the option to flash a custom ROM it’s nice to know that the option is there when the manufacturer drops support and updates for your device of choice (T-Mobile G1 still alive and kicking thanks to CyanogenMod 5.08! Android 2.1 on a G1!)

The most annoying thing about this comprehensive review is the number of DRAWS. People want a winner, not one thing being better than the other and ending up being a draw. Although you were reasonably neutral, I do think there were times I wanted to interrupt you and ask you to settle on Evo like when you said the calls were louder but not by much and then giving it a DRAW.

No one ever mentions the horrible quality of Motorola phones, in general. I would have a hard time picking any Motorola phone over another maker, regardless of features, because their phones have always been garbage. They wear down very quickly. Just look at the Razr and the first Droid if you need proof. Both of these phones get very “loose” feeling rather quickly. I would like to see how the Droid X feels after a few months of usage. HTC has always made fantastic devices. Their build quality is outstanding. I also don’t think that the Droid X’s 50 more pixels make much of a difference. Especially when you figure that the owner of either device won’t have its counterpart there to compare. Both displays look amazing when you’re looking at the phones by themselves. Also, you can’t say pricing is a draw, because you even mentioned that Vcast costs $10 extra. Sprint TV is included on the EVO. So, to have all of the same features, the Droid X will always be $10 more expensive.

I believe the EVO should have won more of the comparisons, such as the design comparison.
It is clear that the EVO looks much slicker than the Motorola Droid X.
I did not agree that the HD video on the X “smashed” the EVO’s, the slower shutter speed on the X is a very big deal because pictures are allot of what most people care about, and no-body likes blur.
The HTC Evo also was claimed to have the best pricing, as it should have been the winner, most people would not to splurge on the hotspot, unless they are using that as a replacement for the internet they have at home.
SO my point is, everyone wants there new phone to be a winner… I think based on this review it should have been a draw, but I understand that its all about selling new phones.. and who looks at phone reviews? those who are buying a new phone.
July 19th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
I own the HTC. I have not played with the X, but I can say that the EVO is the best phone that I have ever owned by far! Since both phones are Android based and have 2.1, it would seem that the 4G and the front facing camera would put it over the edge. In any case I am in Chicago and I see 4G speeds from 3 – 8 Mbps; and although Fring and Skype are no longer together you can still do Fring to Fring video calls over 3G, 4G, and WiFi. EVO for me!
July 19th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
The review was good, however I would have liked to see a more in-depth comparison between the carriers and service. Verizon and Sprint (based on your review) will charge roughly the same price when both phones are feature packed….however….4G is a big bonus to the Evo. I understand it’s only available in certain markets, but that being said….more markets are coming. The Droid X will still be stuck on Verizon’s 3G network when it’s all said and done. Not to mention that Sprint offers a truly UNLIMITED data plan for one flat reasonable rate….and Verizon’s “Unlimited” plan comes with a data cap. In that catergory, I would have given the Evo the win…but then again, that’s just my opinion…
July 19th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
I thought this review was very neutral and i enjoyed reading it all, but agree there were too many draws and since i DO own an evo 4g after all I was disappointed that you gave the droid x the nod because all throughout the reading i felt like the evo was winning haha.
Battery life is so true though. But a front facing camera, more useable typing interface and spreading 4g make up for it. Along with the cheaper unlimited data plan (without tethering) and also the amazing ROM flashing abilities.
Again though. Thanks for the comprehensive review!

How can a higher resolution screen that does not show as many details win as the better display?
July 19th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
It’s pretty much a toss up either way you go. Speeds can change dramatically even within your home area… From my home I get really good speeds on my EVO but I literally walk two blocks to my sister in laws house and my speeds drop off almost in half. I have used Verizon before and their overall network is slightly faster in more locations than on Sprint. I have been bummed that Sprint didn’t have more accessories out for the EVO at launch and the story still is late July on a Media dock and Car Kit designed just for the EVO. I think part of that was they rushed the phone to market. As far as battery life goes I get great battery life ever since the June 28 update on my EVO. But battery life is again another user dependent feature. I typically take my EVO off the charger at 8 in the morning and by 11 at night I am still hovering around 40% remaining…. I love Sprints any mobile any time plan. I live off the 450 minutes plan and so far in my first month I only used 90 any time/land line minutes and so far in my second month I have used only 25 any time/land line minutes…. But I average about 90 minutes of web surfing, 40 minutes of talk, 20 – 30 e-mails a day, 10 – 20 pictures a day while uploading 10 or so to Facebook, weather is set to 3 hour update and e-mail is at hourly updates as well is Facebook plus I average about 100 text messages a day. so to make it 14+ hours and still have 40% remaining battery life isn’t a problem.
The EVO’s auto settings for the camera are horrible. if you manually adjust the ISO settings to better match the lighting your in you get 1000% better pictures vs the stock auto settings.
I think all the Android phones coming out right now are basically the same as far as features and performance. Even if compared to the iPhone (as long as your using duct tape or a case) No phone is really head and shoulders above the rest.
This review is pretty good. I think you could go either way with a winner have or have a draw between the two.
July 19th, 2010 at 5:02 pm
Did not see HDMI output mentioned, which is a distinguishing feature for the EVO.
July 19th, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Correction, HDMI was mentioned, but not in the win/lose/draw section.
July 19th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
Very glad I waited for the Droid X. I really like the interface and feel. It actually has some personality to it. Did come comparing to my friend’s evo last night and it was pretty far behind the X in terms of speed, photo quality, and screen clarity. Unfortunately, this reviewer was not aware of certain Droid X features that would have won it more categories. Though the Droid X is the best thing on the market right now, something else will come along in 6 minths and beat it. That’s the perpetual technology snare.
July 19th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
I ordered my X last Friday. I currently have the Droid Eris and absolutely hate it, so any HTC product is out of the question for me. I used to work for Sprint and VZW and have been around phones for a min and while I think HTC’s UI is the best in the game; nobody makes a phone better than Motorola. Motorola has never been known for making beautiful phones and I have always disliked the UI, but they work! I know people that still have their Star Tac and refuse to give it up! I personally think that the review was on point and eagerly await my X
July 19th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
I think the reviews of Sprint versus Verizon are missing a key point – coverage. It doesn’t matter how good Sprint 4G is if I can’t use the phone in 3G or any mode within 10 miles of my house. And I am not alone, Sprint has not invested in covering more rural areas. This is a big advantage to Verizon.
July 19th, 2010 at 6:54 pm
Ordered my X today
July 19th, 2010 at 8:11 pm
I think the Droid is a nice phone, but I much prefer my EVO.
July 19th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
I among others have a problem here too…as far as pricing is concerned, the 450 minutes with sprint are for landlines since sprint offers free mobile to mobile regardless of carrier. That to me is HUGE difference than the regular 450 minutes offered on Verizon’s phone, especially given that sprint is $10 cheaper. Add to that the night and weekends start at 7pm vs 9pm on verizon and SOMEHOW pricing is still a draw…come on people.
This may or may not be appropriate to add here but if this wasn’t enough, family plans…cost much more on verizon than with sprint for smart phones. I mean in what way do pricing and value draw for these two products.
Again, sprint is $10 cheaper and you get so much more.
July 19th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
Don’t forget with sprint in that 450 plan you get any mobil anytime minutes.. That hands down is a better deal than the droid plan..
July 19th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
eh, i don’t know. being a t-mobile customer, i have a pretty fair view. The front facing camera is a huge plus, and 4g. I don’t see why the droid x won.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:53 am
I’m not sure I agree with the results. While the reviewer stayed mostly neutral, he completely ignored customizability of the interface. While I realize that it wouldn’t appeal to most users, it is an integral part of the Android Community.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:07 am
As Beth Mahoney said in the first comment up there, Swype is actually a pretty big deal. If you select that for your text entry vice the traditional keyboard, you get the extra symbols/numbers/etc. above the letters, as well as the awesome Swype functionality that can crank out text after text in no time flat.
Overall, very thorough review. Well done.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:36 am
Appreciate the comments, and point on pricing is well taken. I didn’t look at mobile vs. landline minutes or when night and weekends start. Doesn’t change fact that hotspot fee for Evo 4G is $10 more but realize not everyone will spring for that.
As for some rounds ending in draws, that’s because the phones are evenly matched in some categories. I’d like to revisit this head to head once both phones get upgraded to Android 2.2 or maybe even before then if the Droid X gets an update (as has been rumored).
July 20th, 2010 at 10:59 am
i had my evo close to a month i defected from the palm pre, miss the webos, but not enough to make me leave my evo.verizon service is by far more superior but not by much, the droid x as expected is one of the top phones right now so welcome to the club, sit slightly behind the evo and lets ride for another 6 months when another phone hits the market and have us scrambling…………………LOL
July 20th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
Ok, as an Evo owner I know I am slightly biased, but I have been a customer of both Sprint and Verizon, but I really have to say, as far as pricing and value are concerned you are really missing the point. You seem to be stuck on the fact that the mobile hot spot feature is $10 more for Sprint, but as you said yourself, if you have the unlimited plan for Sprint or Verizon plus the mobile hot spot feature, you will be paying the exact same price, regardless of the fact that the Sprint charges more for the mobile hot spot (which you can also connect more devises to). If you are paying the same price you have to look at what you get for the $, not what you pay for one stupid feature. With Sprint you get nights and weekends starting at 7, with Verizon they start at 9. Sprint gives you truly unlimited data while Verizon has a cap. Sprint includes free mobile to mobile calls on all networks (makes a big difference!) and Verizon charges minutes for all calls. Verizon charges extra for their navigation and text and Sprint includes both. With Sprints mobile hot spot feature you can connect up to 8 devises at 4g speeds (in available markets), and Verizon you are stuck with 3g no matter where you are and you can only connect 5 devises. Really the mobile hot spot feature should be thrown out anyway since they are both Android phones with free apps that do the same thing. Really this is a no brainer, the evo wins hands down in this category which would put the Evo at 11 and the X at 10 making the Evo the overall winner.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Yeah. That’s like saying ‘These two boxes cost the same, but one box is full of rocks and one is full of gold coins.’ Witch one is a better value? If you add all the extras to equal Sprints $79 plan, verification will cost you about $130. And of course Sprints tether is $10 more. Its unlimited! Do you have any idea how much Verizon charges for data overages? They charge by the kilobytes! Anyone who has a choice should seriously not be paying Verizon the ridiculous fees they are charging. You are being taken advantage of. Wake up!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
I own a driod original…am getting the X. I have never had to pay for any over use on anything and I use my internet 18 hrs a day. I am not sure what you guys are talking about but the coverage verizon has outweighs sprints and has never failed me. I have heard about 4g but it’s not complete. Do I want to suffer the wait til 4G is completed (brag about my 4g that doesn’t work right yet) or use my 3g, X until 4g is perfected fully functional and get a new 4g phone?
July 20th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
I like both phones…I have owned previously Motorola & HTC devices and yet for ME–which means just me and nobody else–I believe the X FEELS smaller and easier to pocket. You may be different, which is okay. Honestly, it boils down to service right now for me. Where I live, Sprint hasn’t even moved up to 3G–seriously. We here are rocking 2G with NO target date for ANY upgrade whatsoever. What good would it be to purchase a phone that cannot take advantage of such amazing speeds–with no end in sight for that to change? Will it change? Eventually, yes…but I don’t see me gambling the price of making the switch on a hope and a prayer at this point.
Service is different wherever you are, but right here where I live, Verizon wins hands down–but ONLY because it has great service in all rural areas around where I live…were that different, I would certainly consider the EVO, otherwise, its the X all the way…for now.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
i was one of the first in line for my x…..and it’s all that and some !!! it’s my first droid phone, and i’m impressed with it. i do agree with the fact that another phone while be out in a few months and this whole thing will be mute !!
July 23rd, 2010 at 1:34 pm
Ok, let me be more clear on my stance. I think that this is a pretty good and in depth comparison. I know there are going to be those out there that like the Evo and those that like the X. I also know that there are those who like Sprint and those who like Verizon. But as far as this comparison is concerned, the one category that really baffles me is pricing and value. There is no doubt that Verizon has better coverage. But as far as what you get for the $ the Evo is clearly the winner. It really is no contest. You can love the X or the Evo, and you can love Sprint or Verizon, but you can’t argue that if you have the choice and coverage is in your area, the Evo is clearly the winner in Pricing and Value. It makes no difference whether or not you go over the data cap for Verizon, you still pay a lot more for the same thing you get from Sprint. They are both Android phones and they are both amazing but when it come down to it, I have to look at what is going to save me money in the long run and that is why I went through sprint. One thing I think a lot of people don’t realize is that if you are paying $69 or more a month on Sprint you become a Sprint premiere customer and you are able to upgrade your phone every 12 months, which is another big bonus when you think about how fast these new super phones are coming out.
July 25th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
I have both phones and the evo would be the phone of choice if it was not for the fact that the screen separation and backlight
Bleeding thru. Htc needs to recall their phone and fix the issue.
So for now the clear winner for me is the x.
Iam now on my second evo and both have the screen seperation issue.
My one main issue with the droid is the lack of no smart dial.
August 3rd, 2010 at 3:08 am
I believe the EVO should have won as well. I think the droid x is just ugly. I have played with the droid and don’t really like it. That being said I like the EVO and am a fan of the Sense ui. I left verizon bc it’s just too expensive and thanks to Sprint’s unlimited plan I have no regrets.
August 10th, 2010 at 11:57 pm
Sprint rep right here so I’m sure you won’t be surprised when I say EVOOOO! Fyi.. the hotspot feature (8 devices) is actually 30 bucks. The 10 dollar charge is for the 4g service because that is the only 4g phone out there and the only device sprint requires to add that fee to. Sure the prices are great but I must be honest when I say however, it is just not worth it if you don’t have at least 3g available in your area. I live in a big city and were rocking what’s called a 1x.. or dial up speed. Believe it or not so is nyc. Also I can’t stand swype. For someone who has sausage fingers like myself, the huge screen makes it so easy. What I do love is the speech to text feature. Now as you know sprint is together with nextel. Motorola is the sole provider of handsets to the iden network. Those phones are made to take a beating and built to be fixed over and over again. I see them everyday. The customers never want an upgrade or insurance..just a new battery every few years. On the other hand.. htc makes a quality handset along with all the bells and whistles. As far as this comparison is concerned, evo wins in my eyes.. and it looks like the majority of everyone else on here as well.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:41 am
I am so glad I found a review that was completely neutral but in all honesty it really should have been the Evo on top only because your getting more bang for your buck. Literally, an extra cam. a kick stand. 3 extra devices 2 hot stop unlimited everything minus mins(even though theres any mobile any time) and 4g(even if its not in your area its a cell phone its made 2 travel and with about 45 cities with 4g and counting odds r you’ll travel 2 1 of them since they are huge tourist spots.) Again thats just my opinion and i work for verizon and have the X as my work phone but i have the Evo as my personal phone (cuz its cheaper and looks fancier) both great phones though =)
August 14th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
Review seemed bias, favoring the Droid X… ex., display is not as crisp on droid X, but droid X wins… benchmark is better on the Droid X, but slower response, and it’s a draw. I’ve been demo-ing the EVO and Droid X, and by far I favor the EVO precisely for it’s responsive UI. It doesn’t matter what the benchmarks say, real world use is the most important. Also, Droid X doesn’t currently support Flash, while EVO works like a charm. As for 3G speeds go… true, it depends on where you are… but where I am (in the San Francisco Bay Area), I consistently get 900kb/s to 1.3mb/s download and 400kbs/s to 500kb/s on the EVO. Meanwhile, download speeds are about 500kb/s to 700kb/s and upload speeds of 200kbs/s to 300kb/s on the Droid X. Other side benefits of the EVO is Android/xda-developer friendly, while Droid X is currently not (e-fuse, and you brick your Droid X). The only dilemma I have is currently I’m stuck on Verizon, and there’s a hefty penalty to switch. The plan can actually be cheaper on Verizon because you can pick and choose only the features you want, but getting a good-deal wise, hands down Sprint is the winner – Sprint has truly ‘unlimited’ email/data/text/web/video-mail/photo-mail/etc. (Note, Verizon has a 2GB cap on the mobile hotspot plan, while Sprint has a 5GB cap for 3G and unlimited for 4G).
Verizon currently have a re-stocking fee for the Droid X, but I’d still recommend folks to give each phone a try… you have 30 days to return, why not take advantage, and compare for yourself which is better for your situation.
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:48 pm
I don’t know much about either phone but, I do know that HTC in general, makes phones of a much higher quality (all around quality) than Motorola. Every Motorola I’ve owned or played with felt very loose and cheaply made while all of the HTC products I’ve encountered felt much better made AND ran a lot faster than the Motorolas.
August 28th, 2010 at 12:05 am
For your information: If you visit Sprint Relay Store and take a look at the data plan for Evo, you will notice “premium data required.” Premium Data? I asked what that was. Since deaf people rely on videophone for calls and Evo is the first phone to offer this feature to the deaf population, Sprint now requires paying an additional ten dollars for premium data. WHY? Data plans are unlimitted but only up to 5 GB. Videophone use will go over 5 GB in minutes – so to prevent a three thousand dollar bill as so happened to one deaf man, we are required to pay an additional ten dollars per month. So data plans with Sprint are not TRULY unlimitted… there is a cap.
August 29th, 2010 at 8:10 am
i ordered an X. i have been with VZ for a long time. i have always had flip phones. not good ones either. so this high tech phone will be a real treat. i could have gotten any phone. i chose on the X because i will rarely be texting, so i don’t need a slide out keyboard. the cam & vid options are good because if i see my parrots doing anything funny, i can take a pic or clip quickly without having to fumble getting out my digital cam out of the case. lastly. where i work, they use verizon. so i get a 15% discount on my bill. a nice little bonus.
September 7th, 2010 at 3:42 pm
the droid x is the best android phone the reason why less errors then evo sprint network
September 19th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
I’ve been with Verizon for so many years, and they have great customer service.
I’ve always heard about how Sprint Customer Service not so good.
I’ve tested heavily Verizon Droid X and Sprint EVO 4G to decide which one to choose for me and my wife.
They are VERY Identical. But for me, Sprint EVO 4G Won (10-9).
Below are the major 19 factor that are different that I care about (everything else matches):
1- Cost for 2 years (EVO wins)
2- Front Face Camera (EVO Wins)
3- Battery Life (DROID Wins)
4- Camera Button (DROID Wins)
5- Good Charger Location (EVO Wins)
6- Customer Service and Network (DROID Wins)
7- Zoom and Align Text when clicked (EVO Wins)
8- Swype (DROID Wins)
9- Skype (DROID Wins)
10- Weight (DROID Wins)
11- 4G Network (EVO Wins)
12- Sound Quality (EVO Wins)
13- Speed Test at Home (DROID Wins)
14- Speed Test at Work (EVO Wins)
15- 16 GB Sim Card (DROID Wins)
16- Sprint Navigator Free/VZ Navigator Extra Charge (EVO Wins)
17- Banner Info Always on top (DROID Wins)
18- Easy to find phone contacts (EVO Wins)
19- AutoFind when Searching for Application at Market (EVO Wins)
I’ve been with Sprint since the beginning of this month and so far, Sprint Customer Service is very good, I also heard that they’ve improved the last two-three years.
Good luck with your decision making.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:05 pm
If you are already currently a customer with Sprint or Verizon, I don’t see why theres a debate. Unless you plan on getting out of your contract early or your contract is almost over, you can only choose what your carrier offers! All I hear is this 4G crap…if your area doesnt have 4G, you are paying for it for what? Yes, Sprint plan is much cheaper but their coverage is CRAP. And some of ya’ll need to check on your information because Verizon is actually about to be a 4G network as well. Their coverage is already amazingly better than Sprint, so once this happen they will be blown out the water. I live in Arkansas and there isn’t any 4G coverage here so if I got the Evo, I would be paying for something I don’t even receive. So that mean I would only be getting 4G. Why get with Spring and deal with their crappy coverage when they have 3G like everyone else here? It all depends on your area really. You can have the most amazing phone out on the market but if the carrier you with sucks, it doesnt matter! I have the Droid by Motorola that I got for free and I’m about to upgrade to the Droid X. The Droid line is incredible. Verizon may be higher but I dont mind paying because Sprint network isn’t no where near in comparison. Verizon or even AT&T will have another phone out soon that will shut up all the talk about the Evo…might even be T-Mobile. Especially with the talks of Verizon getting the iPhone. Theres a possibility for anything. In all honesty, I think if I were to get any phone on the Sprint network it would probably be the new Samsung Epic
October 24th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
I had the EVO 4G when it first hit the market. I simply returned it after only a few days of use. The phone screen “froze” once or twice forcing me to remove the battery. I’ve had sereral people tell me I need to speak up because I sound “far away”. This could be a network issue though. The phone seems to take awhile longer to connect when dialing a number. I also, couldn’t justify spending the extra $10 a month for features the phone already has installed into it. I purchased the phone at full price being that I didn’t want to renew my contract with Sprint. I now have the DROID X from Verizon. It’s basically the same phone. I’m told I sound fine on the phone. The phone connects in a timely manner and their is no $10 unjustified monthly charge. My monthly bill went from roughly $87 a month to $142 a month. Sprints unlimited mobil to mobile is awesome so the 450 minute, unlimited data, unlimited text, GPS, $7 for insurance plan worked great for me. With Verizon for unlimited talk (needed this to make up the difference in minutes versus the Sprint unlimited mobile to mobile), unlimited text is $90 a month, data is $30 a month, $7 for insurance. To me it’s worth it. The Verizon Wireless network is much larger. Sprints WIMAX 4G is a $G from China that is not very reliable and has network flaws. Verion and AT&T are going to be introducing the LTE version of 4G soon. This is a much better 4G network. Being that both phones run on the 3G (Sprint 4G isn’t nationwide yet, very limited area) the Verizon 3G is faster. Sprint shouldn’t charge the $10 a month data charge. It’s unjustified.

I am an X child ( literally, I’m a child and I own a droid x) and i think that the x is soooo much faster then the eve because when I used to be wit sprint, I tried the EVO, uh a little slow…. Im rly happy i switched to verizon for the x and i will STICK WITH IT

What about Evos kick stand

I have owned two evos. The first one went back to Sprint(to much for me) I now have an evo flashed to cricket.
I think people need to leave the networks out of this review for now anyway. I love the evo it is the best mobile device I’ve ever owned a big thanks to the snapdragon. Overall processor speed trumps the Droid in my opinion,as mentioned somewhere in this forum Motorola makes a lower quality product. EVO ALL THE WAY!!!

OK… enough of the device comparisons. They are all just toys and without the service they are all a draw- simply paper weights. I do own a DROID X simply because its on the best network and myself being a network guy this phone offers what I need to tech support from remote locations. Bells and whistles is what draws the consumers in… But when it comes right down to it, its simply about consistant availability. I have had Sprint and Nextel service and even to this day their service still sucks. Better! but still sucks in comparison to Verizon. I have kids, friends and family close and dear to me as most or all of you do. Many times over the years there have been situations where availability was critical. Meaning, if my daughter is broke down on the free way some where I feel so much more secure with Verizon simply because the odds of her getting in touch with me or while we are on the phone I dont have to worry about a dropped signal.
Also, lets not compare apps because most phones have their own repository of apps to everyones liking. Of course you dont download things like CPU, HDMI, Two way camera…etc However, if I have to decide on HDMI vs coverage to my loved ones… I will take the consistant coverage any day of the week and so will most of you.
So simply by default DROIDX wins for me and Not because EVO isnt a comparible phone because it is. Just simply because the Verizon Network is the largest and best. As far as cost, depends on your priorities. Id rather pay more for consistency then less for unpredictability.
