Motorola Droid Reviewed: iPhone Envy Now Cured?

Yes, this is the Droid you’re looking for! For years, Verizon customers have complained about the carrier’s staid collection of smart phones. One of our most popular polls of 2008 asked Verizon users if they were waiting for an iPhone and 92 percent said “yes!” Well, Verizon customers, the wait is over. You still can’t get an iPhone, but you can get a device that’s every bit as cool.
We just posted our full review of the Motorola Droid and were simply blown away by the beautiful display, snappy performance, and incredible Web browsing experience. The 854×480 resolution screen lets you see more of a Web page than the iPhone and, as with Apple’s popular handset, you can zoom in and out at will or view pages in either portrait or landscape mode.
The GPS functionality is also a huge game-changing surprise. Unlike other smart phones which charge big bucks for GPS services, the Droid comes with free turn-by-turn navigation. You don’t need to pay for VZW navigator.
Overall, we’re incredibly impressed with the Droid. Check out our full review for all the juicy details.

I voted “yes” but I would have prefered a different choice, like None of the Above. I like the iPhone. I’m not fond of AT&T. Yet, while I recognize that Verizon’s network IS better, they also have a lot of negatives–they tend to lock down their phones (and might do so with the iPhone) AND they’re a lot more expensive than other networks. So I’d have to see a lot more details regarding a Verizon iPhone before I’d even consider it.
