Motorola Debuts Defy for T-Mobile, “Oprah-Approved” Rugged Android Phone

Tough, meet smart. Motorola today announced the Defy, a rugged Android phone coming to T-Mobile. This thing is durable. The Defy is scratch and water resistant, as well as dust-proof. On the software side, the Defy will be equipped with an Adobe Flash-lite browser, as well as DLNA for streaming media content. Plus, unlike the Motorola i1 for Sprint’s iDen network, this handset will handle 3G data.
Today the Defy is making its first ever appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show–of all places–for the premiere of its 25th season, so we’re guessing that the target audience of this phone is less on-the-go construction workers and more moms who need their device to survive all sorts of wear and tear (not to mention curious kids).
The Motorola Defy will join the Samsung Vibrant, the myTouch 3G Slide, and T-Mobile G2 to fill out T-Mobile’s varied line of Android phones. Motorola expects the Defy to be available “in time for the holidays.”
