10 Most Anticipated Smartphones

Mar 14, 2012 11:52 AM EDT by Avram Piltch, LAPTOP Online Editorial Director

Now that we’re well into 2013, the lineup of smartphone launches for the year is beginning to take shape. The new flagship handsets for the year are expected to come in all sizes and flavors, with some dabbling in new gesture-based operating systems and others implementing features we haven’t seen in smart devices before. While a handful of smartphones on this list are yet to be confirmed, here’s a glimpse of what we can expect from 2013.

Apple iPhone 5S/6

Apple hasn’t uttered a word about its next-generation smartphone, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning. The iPhone 5 successor, believed to be called the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, is rumored to launch toward the end of the summer this year. “We expect Apple will introduce its new iPhones and iOS 7 in June, and start shipping the new iPhones (5S and low-cost model) in the FDD version in July,” KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a research note. The next-generation iPhone isn’t expected to come with a major design overhaul, but it is rumored to come with a fingerprint scanner under its home button and a faster A7 processor.

  2. a passerby Says:

Seconding the above comment. SGSIII should be there instead of the LG Vu or the Samsung Beam.

  3. Sasmung Galaxy SIII Says:

Thirding the above comment. If the so called iPhone 5 is on this list than surely the quad core powered Samsung Galaxy SIII should be

  4. Ben Kingsley Says:

I kept waiting for an S3, too. Did the author miss the 20 million S2 handsets sold in the last year?

  5. Nate Says:

Doubt he missed that number, but he probably also noticed the approx 70 million iPhone’s sold in 2011. Seriously, no matter how great an Android phone is, it will not take the market away from the newest iPhone.

  6. Prakhar Says:

Whoa whoa whoa…are you missing nokia prodigy…that’s d high end smartphone for windows phone 8 codenamed ‘apollo’, which would function with multicore processor, full hd display and video recording. Apollo is a next gen upgrade that’s to overcome the flaws of windows 7.5 mango. Lumia 900 was just a trailor. Finnish men are finally back :)
