Mobile Rockers Rejoice: Guitar Hero III Mobile for BlackBerry

April 1st, 2008 by Joanna Stern

guitarhero.JPGThis is the best mobile entertainment news out of CTIA yet (at least for BlackBerry owners)! Hands-On Mobile today announced that Guitar Hero III Mobile is now available on BlackBerry smart phones.

Say good bye to Brickbreaker because the game allows players to hit number keys in sync with colored notes that appear on a scrolling fret board—just like on a Playstation or Xbox.

The game offers 15 tracks taken from the console series, including “Cherub Rock,” “Miss Murder,” “Monsters,” “Suck My Kiss,” and “Trippin’ On A Hole,” and offers subscribers the opportunity to expand their playlists with three new songs every month. After a year, players will be able to access more than 50 songs and 150 unique levels across all three difficulties (easy, medium, and expert).

guitarhero-blog.JPGI downloaded the game to by Blackberry 8830 first thing this morning. It took about 4 minutes to download the application from www.bplay.com/guitarhero.

After downloading I was prompted for my credit card for the game’s one-time payment of $14.95. After that I was up and running.

I selected my guitar and my venue and the easy level. My first song “Suck My Kiss” was a complete failure. It took me a bit of time to get used to which keys line up to the colored notes on the scrolling fret. To hit the Green you use the R,F,C keys. For the Red the Y, H, B keys and Yellow the U,J, N keys.

When you hit these keys in sync with the fret the phone vibrates to let you know you have successfully hit the note. Check out our video below to see how it all works.

To access the game, users will have to pay a one-time fee of $14.95. Simply go to www.bplay.com and select Guitar Hero III Mobile. To get the game on a BlackBerry device, go to www.bplay.com/guitarhero.
