Microsoft Unveils Gaming Mouse and Keyboard
August 20th, 2008 by Dana Wollman
Today, Microsoft unveiled the SideWinder X5, a gaming mouse, and the SideWinder X6, the company’s first-ever gaming keyboard. The keyboard, which will sell for $79.95, has a detachable number pad that users can plug in to either the left or right side. As for the number pad, users can switch between standard mode and one of two gaming modes. Its Cruise Control feature allows a user to execute a continuous action (say, running across a field) without holding down a button. It also has two backlight options, a launch button for Windows Vista Games Explorer, automatic profile switching (profiles are attached to different games), and users can assign up to 90 Macros using an in-game Macro record button. There are also volume and media keys on board.
The mouse, which costs $59.95, has nine buttons, including two vertical ones on the sides, five programmable ones, and a launch button for Windows Vista Games Explorer. It has six dpi settings, the highest of which is 2,000, and users can switch between high, medium, and low resistance on the fly with the click of a button. In addition, the mouse has a Quick Turn button, and users can record Macros for moves in their favorite games. More images after the jump.
