Meet HTC’s Latest Smartphone: The S743
January 6th, 2009 by Todd Haselton
Don’t buy an HTC Touch Pro just yet. This morning HTC announced the S743, a full QWERTY device that has a few unique features. For one, it offers a full 12-key dial-pad on the front, which means you don’t have to rely on a touch screen just to make a phone call quickly, as you did with the HTC Touch devices. When you’re ready to fire off an e-mail, you can turn the S743 and type horizontally on the full slide-out QWERTY.
Unlike the HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond, the S743doesn’t sport HTC’s TouchFLO interface which makes it easy to swipe your finger across the screen to view photos, your inbox, and more. Instead, it uses the stock Windows Mobile UI. That’s because the S743 runs Windows Mobile 6.1 basic (not Professional) and doesn’t have a touch screen.
While the HTC Touch Pro is subsidized by carriers, the S743 will be available as an unlocked-only device at first. 3G data speeds, Wi-Fi connectivity, stereo Bluetooth, a 2.4 inch display, and an FM radio round out the features of this new smart phone.
We’ll be bringing you a hands-on as soon as we can, so keep your browsers pointed here.

They did not announce the S743 this week as if it was a new device; they announced it for North America (with north american bands). The S743 is not a new device.
