LG G-Slate Video Hands-on: T-Mobile Gets in the Game
Mar 22, 2011 03:58 PM EDT by Meghan J. McDonough, LAPTOP Web Producer/Writer Yes, the ulraslim new Galaxy Tab 8.9 is getting all the attention at this show, but it’s not coming out until the summer. The LG G-Slate is hitting T-Mobile this spring for $529 (after a mail-in rebate). We finally spent some hands-on time with this Android 3.0 slate, and it certainly brings some unique features to the table. This 8.9-inch device captures 3D video with its two rear-facing 5-MP cameras and lets you enjoy 3D content on its 1280 x 800 screen. Unfortunately, you need glasses to view 3D on the display, and the effect wasn’t very compelling when we donned a pair of specs.
What we do like about the G-Slate is its crisp and bright displa–iin 2D mode–and HDMI output capability, allowing users to display 3D and 2D content on a big-screen TV. We also enjoyed screeching around the track in Need for Speed Shift HD and tuning in the news with T-Mobile TV. T-Mobile also includes Zinio eReader for reading magazines. The $529 price is a bit steep, but it includes 32GB of memory. Plus, you can use this tablet as a hotspot without paying additional data fees. The G-Slate supports a max of 14 Mbps downloads.
