Lenovo X200 Tablet Hands-On
September 18th, 2008 by Michael A. Prospero, LAPTOP Reviews Editor Performance Our X200 Tablet came with a 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L9400 processor with 2GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive (other hard drives are available, up to 320GB for traditional HDDs, as well as a 128 GB SSD option). It notched a score of 3,012 in PCMark Vantage, which is about 600 points below the X200, but still roughly 300 points above average for ultraportables. For those looking to extend their battery life even more, an ultra-low voltage processor will also be made available as an option. Predictably, the Intel GMA 4500 graphics card wasn’t stellar, but it wasn’t horrible, either. Its 3DMark03 score of 2,429 was about 50 points lower than the X200, but nearly 1,000 points higher than the category average; the X200 Tablet’s 3DMark06 score of 805 was both lower than the X200 (929) and the average (836). Wireless Options Galore Being a Centrino 2 system, the X200 Tablet features Intel’s Wi-Fi Link5300 802.11n card. It also comes with Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR. Additionally, the X200 Tablet will be outfitted with just about every wireless broadband option out there: Using Qualcomm’s new GOBI technology, the X200 Tablet will feature WWAN global roaming (GSM and CDMA, through AT&T and Verizon Wireless). Battery Life In our LAPTOP Battery test (Wi-Fi Web surfing), the 8-cell battery endured for 5 hours and 54 minutes–24 minutes under the average for an ultraportable, and far short of Lenovo’s claim of 10.3 hours. Pricing According to Lenovo, the X200 Tablet will be priced in the $2,000 range, on a par with previous tablets. We like its look and feel, and think Lenovo has another winner on its hands–and in ours. Check out the hands-on video below and look for our full review in the coming days.
