July 15th, 2008 by Avram Piltch
Not content to add more Thinkpads to its stable of powerful portables, Lenovo today announced the introduction of new IdeaPad consumer notebooks based on Centrino 2. Building on the success of its Y510 budget notebook and U110 ultraportable, the company promises additional Y and U series notebooks in time for the holiday buying season.
Another U
The U330, like its U110 sibling, promises performance and style in a compact package. The 0.9-inch thin, sub 4-pound chassis will be available in “glossy Indigo” or “Bold black” colors and feature facial recognition technology and touch-sensitive multimedia buttons.
Three New Y Sizes
To succeed the 15.4-inch Y510, Lenovo is adding four new notebooks of different sizes.
The 15-inch Y530 and and 14-inch Y430 will be available in Bold black or Crimson red colors and offer frameless screens as an option. The 13-inch Y330 will come in black, white, or Bubblegum pink colors in a shingle design and offer a standard array of Ideapad features.
Finally, the 17-inch Y730 is the high performance, multimedia model of the series. It comes in Indigo blue or Valencia orange for a version that sports a gaming-friendly control panel. In addition to the usual IdeaPad features, the Y730 will also have dual hot swappable hard drives as an option.
