Sure, you’ve seen press photos of the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook ($349.97) before. Perhaps you’ve even seen the hands-on photo gallery of the S10 from CNET Taiwan. But have you seen this hot new mini going wild with its chassis off?
In preparation for an expected late-September release here in the U.S. (earlier in Asia), Lenovo has submitted all kinds of IdeaPad S10 photos and test reports to the FCC. You can even read the manual, which is written for both the 10-inch S10 and 9-inch S9.
In our quick glance at the internal pictures, we were not surprised to see all the usual goodies: a SATA hard port, a DDR2 DIMM slot, an Intel Atom CPU, and a run-of-the-mill 802.11g Wi-Fi card.
We did, however, learn a few things we didn’t know before. Namely, the following:
- The black version appears to have a white keyboard. We’re not sure how we feel about this.
- The white version has a blue bottom (or could have a blue bottom anyway).
- And there’s a nice, big fan which looks like the one found in the MSI Wind. Hopefully, it will make the S10 one of the coolest netbooks around.

I actually like the white keyboard, because I can barely see my keys on my black eeepc 1000h. If the keyboard was white it would be easier to see in dark rooms. And it would still have the slick black casing. so I kinda like Lenovo’s two-tone approach. Then again, I have a feeling the final version won’t be that way. Especially since Lenovo’s site pictured what seemed to be a pure black S10.

So like when is it going to hit the market? More vapor-ware like the MSI wind. Ship dates from Lenovo are now sometime in September but in what year is not specified.
