There have been a lot of rumblings about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6, but the most persistent rumor we’ve heard is that Cupertino’s next-generation handset will sport a 4.7-inch display. And while we’ve seen a host of dummy chassis for the iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen, we didn’t know how the package would come together, until now.
The folks over at 9to5Mac have put together a mock-up of the iPhone 6 using a 4.7-inch dummy chassis and the display from a Motorola Moto X. Though the Moto X’ display resolution is limited to 720p, far lower than the iPhone 6’s expected 1704 x 960, the mock-up gives us a good idea of what the next iPhone will look like next to Apple’s current generation iPhone 5s.
In the video, the iPhone 6’s home screen has the same number of apps as the iPhone 5s’, indicating that the phone’s layout could remain largely unchanged. That makes sense, as the iPhone 6’s screen is expected to keep the iPhone 5s’ 16:9 display ratio. That said, there are some apps, including Safari, that show significantly more information above the fold on the iPhone 6 than on the iPhone 5s.
Overall, the mock-up gives us a good idea about what using the iPhone 6 might feel like. That said, the 4.7-inch screen is still far from confirmed. Apple is also said to be working on a larger 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6, which may also sport the same 16:9 screen ratio. What’s more, the dummy chassis that 9to5Mac used in their mock-up isn’t necessarily what the iPhone 6 will look like.
Beyond its larger display, the iPhone 6 is rumored to feature NFC connectivity, a new camera with separate sensors for picking up color and ambient light and, of course, iOS 8.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6 later this year. In the meantime stay tuned for any new developments about the handset.
