Apple has sold 170 million iPads, and it hopes to stay a step ahead of Android with the release of the iPad Air. The $499 16GB device is 20 percent thinner and weighs just 1 pound, down from 1.4 pounds before. Apple says this is the thinnest full-size tablet in the world.
The new iPad Air has a bezel that’s 43-percent thinner, so it should be easier to use in one hand. The tablet measures just 7.5 mm thick, compared to 9.4 mm for the previous iPad.
Not only will it include the M7 motion co-processor, you’ll also find an A7 chip on the inside. Apple says this will deliver up to 8X the CPU performance and 72X the graphics performance. Apple still promises 10 hours of battery life.
Other features include a 5-MP back iSight camera with 1080p video recording. Up front is an HD camera for FaceTime calls, and there’s dual microphones for better audio recording. The exterior will be available in silver and white or space gray and black.
Stay tuned for hands-on impressions.
