Customer service is not that great. I let a friend use my EEE PC and he drop it. Well... The screen broke... Now I'm trying to find someone to do the repair. It's been very hard. C/S for Asus said go to the web site and find the price for the screen.. Ok I went to the site. Guess what? They don't sell them on Asus web site. Ok I call back and got 3 other stories. Then I was told send it in (I pay for shipping to & from) then the service department will look at it. Then they will email me the cost to repair the screen. If I don't want it replaced by ASUS I would have to pay for the EEEEEE PC to get shipped back to me. I could not talk with the repair shop, supervisor or manager. It was a total waste of time. Total time 1 1/2 hours for nothing. So the search is on for a repair shop...

Thank you for the great article! I own the 7inch EeePC model, waiting for an article on how you can get the webcam to work through Skype if it's already built-in to the system (without having to upgrade) that part of the laptop if it's not necessary.

I own one and I love it. I'm planning on using it in college to take notes so I don't have to take out my gigantic Toshiba out of my dorm room. BTW, the picture of the author of this article (who is a big guy) hunched over this tiny tiny computer is hilarious :)

Welcome to the ground breaking world of EeePC. Your write up was a great first look at, what I think, an industry shifting product. I bought one about three weeks after they were released wit the thought I could eBay it if I didn't like it. But, no one can pry this little conversation starter and productivity enhancer from my oversized fingers! In fact, we covered all of CES this year with only EeePC's!

bob the builder sez:

"MR Wilson you are nuts. I don’t see how Asus really can market this for gramps, its to small?"

And since I have a 13 year old grand daughter, I qualify as "gramps", and this little computer is a GEM!

I've already enabled the advanced desktop/s, but I'm currently trying out 3 other small Eee PC LINUX distro's booting off of CF cards.

All I can say is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY COOL, this box ROCKS!

You, bob the builder, are the one who should be checking their sanity.
