Hulu Plus Drops to $7.99 a Month, Gets a Free Trial, and Enters Roku

Hulu Plus edges forward with a little bit more news everyday it seems. Recent announcements include the service’s availability on the PS3 gaming system and Sony BRAVIA HD television sets. Today’s news is that Hulu’s subscription television service has lowered its price from $9.99 to $7.99 a month, that it will be available on Roku set-top boxes, and offering a 1-week free trial.
When it comes to entertainment pay-walls, cheaper can’t hurt. And given that Netflix’s streaming-only plan starts at a breezy $7.99 a month, Hulu Plus is wise to match the current entertainment heavyweight’s cheapest option. Because Hulu offers access to every current episode of shows like 30 Rock, The Office, Modern Family, and others (episodes that are not necessarily available in Netflix), there’s sure to be at least some willing subscribers.
Considering that Netflix is available via the PS3, XBox 360, and Wii, as well as a fleet of internet-connect Blu-ray players and HD televisions, Hulu Plus has got some mountain wall to scale in terms of delivery channels, but it’s nice to know they’re working hard on it.
