HTC-Made Facebook Phone Launching at Mobile World Congress?

Facebook PhoneSome rumors just never die.

According to a story first published by CityAM, HTC is gearing up to launch a Facebook branded phone at Mobile World Congress.

Sources close to the project have described the phone as running a modified version of Android (don’t they all?) that will feature deep integration of a user’s Facebook contacts and other personal information. Facebookers Joe Hewitt (of Firefox fame) and Matthew Papakipos (a former ┬ámember of the Google Chrome browser team) are said to be leading the project.

Unlike most rumors these days, this one will at least be confirmed in a matter of weeks, as Mobile World Congress is just around the corner.

Even though Facebook has previously denied that such a phone exists, this latest news jives nicely with the company’s latest statements that it will be focusing most of its attention on the mobile space in 2011.
