October 21st, 2009 by Avram Piltch  Current Price: $804.48 (8 sellers)

hp-probook-5310mTime was when you had to choose between an expensive, high-quality business ultraportable like the Lenovo ThinkPad X301 ($1,889.00) or the Dell Latitude E4300 ($1,409.00) and inexpensive but bulky small business system like the Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 or Dell Vostro 1520. However, HP has broken the mold with its ProBook 5310m, a 3.8-pound, 13-inch system with incredible build quality, strong performance, long battery life and small business-friendly features.

We’ve just posted our review of the ProBook 5310m and were incredibly impressed with everything from its highly-responsive keyboard to its sleek brushed aluminum lid to the QuickWeb operating system that got us online in 30 seconds and the CPU / hard drive combo that make the system so fast. Check out our review for a complete look at this groundbreaking notebook.

    What about the heat and fan noise? Is the fan always spinning during idle or only under load?

  2. admin Says:

    All touch points were consistently under 85 degrees. I did not hear any fan noise.

  3. CRB Says:

    so this is a relatively quiet laptop then? awesome to hear! thanks for the quick reply.

  4. Fanfoot Says:

    Seems very impressive. Sad about the crappy speakers though. I assume its hard to find something decent that fits into a unit of this size, but still, others seem to have accomplished it. If I want to watch a video in my hotel room it shouldn’t be difficult to hear the audio.

    Personally I don’t find the displayport to be a problem. I would be expecting all the laptops to move in this direction. As long as they offer adapters for VGA and preferably DVI, the native displayport support should do the job.

  5. Dip Says:

    does the HP 5310m come with the spill resistant keyboard?

    Thanks for the review… I have been dying to check this notebook ever since I read the reviews. I see that they are for sale on HP.com, but would you happen to know where I can check one out in person? I would like to get a feel for the keys/trackpad before I buy! Seems like the release has been pretty quiet…

  7. Christopher Says:

    Would be really intrested in buying this laptop but have some questions before buying.

    Is it possible to transfer audio threw the displayport on the 5310M? And the audio port it has, can it handle digital audio, for example that I could watch DVDs with this laptop and connect it to my hometheather and get surround sound?

  8. Gabi Says:

    Tha lacking VGA port is a major laydown. The problem is that the HP “displayport to VGA adapter” does not seem to be available anywhere. Therefore, beware of this notebook if you are a scientist who wants to use it for presentations! I hope that this adapter will be available very soon!

    @Gabi:
    You can find displayport to VGA adapter in any good online shop, even on macstore :-) Price range: 20 to 30 us$

    @Phil
    Is the 5310m displayport is also a mini displayport like in macs?
