HP Envy 14 Beats Edition Hands-On: Mean, Lean, Sound Machine

What, the Envy 14 isn’t cool enough for you? Then how about the Dr. Dre-inspired Envy 14 Beats Edition?

While this notebook has the same internal specs as the regular Envy 14–which means Intel Core i5 processors and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics, the Beats Edition will be decked out in all black, with the red Beats Audio logo on the lid. Instead of white backlighting, the keys will glow red; overall, the notebook looks  intimidating–in a good way. Sure, you don’t get the powerful audio mixing tools that came with the Envy 15 Beats Unlimited Edition, but this machine costs over a grand less ($1,249 starting price vs. $2,299).

Inside, the Envy 14 Beats Edition will feature Beats audio technology, designed in part by Dr. Dre, which means audio quality above and beyond what you’d normally get out of a notebook. The Envy 14 will also come with Beats Solo headphones from Monster, which will help users fully enjoy the sound coming out of their system.

The Envy 14 Beats Edition is on sale now. Check out specs, images, and more new HP products after the jump.

    But no USB 3.0 :(

  2. Mark Says:

You guys saw this thing live–is that silver chrome around the edges?

  3. Alex Says:

@Mark: Judging by IMG_6158, I would definitely say yes.

  4. Bob Says:

I have owned this laptop for about a month. The chrome around the edges is tinted, so it matchs matte black quite well. It’s really nothing to worry about.

  5. Titanium Says:

I have mine being built right now. It’s scheduled to ship 11.05.10. I went with the i7 720, 8 GB RAM, wireless broadband, and 640 GB HDD. If I could change things with this computer, I’d have the option for the Radiance High Resolution display, Blu-Ray drive, USB 3.0 port, and more SSD options. A HDD/SSD hybrid drive would have been perfect. Seeing as this laptop doesn’t include the headphones anymore, I’ll have to buy them seperately at Best Buy after the computer arrives.

  6. Bob Says:

“the Envy 14 Beats Edition will feature Beats audio technology, designed in part by Dr. Dre” Really?

It’s a good thing Dr. Dre is finally putting his degree in computer/software/electrical engineering to good use. After settling for the record industry for so long, it seemed doubtful he would ever have an opportunity to share his talents in these fields with the world…
