How to Bypass Windows 8′s Login Screen

¬†Opening the Welcome screen and logging into Windows 8 manually may seem tedious. With this tip, you can bypass both screens, forcing Windows 8 to place you directly in the Start screen when you boot up. Note that doing so will log you into the account that you were signed into when you made this change. You’ll still be required to enter a password when switching between accounts.

  1. Type netplwiz into Modern UI’s Search charm.

  2. Open netplwiz.

  3. Uncheck the box labeled “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”.

  4. Click Ok.

  5. Type and confirm the password for the account that wants to bypass logins. Then, click Ok.

    Thanks. I never used a password with Windows 7 or any other Windows. My computer sits at home and only I use it with my husband checking out auto sites once in a while so I don’t have to worry about anybody using it or messing it up. I am now using the 3 step picture password which is easier and kind of fun.

    please speak english for us non computer literate people. What the heck is a “Modern UI’s search charm”? and where in the heck is it on my computer? Thank you for your help

    @Kellie

    Actually, the Search charm can be accessed from anywhere within Windows 8. It’s a feature which allows the user to search a computer for certain programs, files, or settings.

    To get to the search charm, mouse to the top or bottom right corner of the screen, move the mouse up or down, then click Settings. Yes, this gesture is awkward. Yes, we shouldn’t have broken charms in the first place. Yes, Windows 8 sucks as a whole and the parts which constitute Windows 8 each suck individually. Typical Microsoft. Every second OS release sucks.

    I was locked out of my computer due to password forgotten. Eventually I removed my forgotten password using PCUnlocker Live CD. Now I have followed you guide to enable “automatically sign in” feature. It saves me time!

    my box is unchecked and it still requires login!
    Any ideas??
