Hike! 5 Great Mobile Football Apps to Feed Your Obsession
September 3rd, 2010 by Michael A. Prospero, LAPTOP Reviews Editor
You’re no longer confined to the barca lounger when you want to watch football this fall. Here are five apps that will let you keep up with your teams while you’re on the go. All work on multiple platforms, but some are carrier-specific. And even if you’re huddled in front of that large-screen TV, these apps will let you keep track of your fantasy teams, providing up-to-the-minute stats and scores. Here are the top 5 football apps.
1. Verizon NFL Mobile (Android, BlackBerry)
Android and BlackBerry users on Verizon can download this free app to watch NBC’s Sunday Night Football, the NFL Network’s Thursday night games, and the NFL RedZone channel, which shows key plays and touchdowns live on Sundays. Other video includes game highlights and team updates, and you can customize the app to show alerts from your favorite team. Users can also listen to live radio broadcasts of every regular season and playoff game from both home and away teams. Those with fantasy teams can access player and team statistics. As with the Sprint app, you’ll want an unlimited data plan.

2. Sprint Football Live (Android, BlackBerry, webOS)
Sprint used to have the NFL exclusively on its devices, but now that Verizon locked up the pros, Sprint turned to the college ranks to beef up its offering. This app has live streaming of college games from ESPN Mobile TV (although only over 3G and 4G). On Sundays, users can watch a live fantasy football show from ESPN, and receive video updates weekly from top analysts including NBC’s Cris Collinsworth and CBS’s Charley Casserly. Other features let you manage your fantasy football teams on ESPN.com, Yahoo.com, CBSSports.com, and FoxSports.com, and lets you set alerts for specific players.

3. NFL SuperFan (Android, iOS, webOS)
AT&T customers aren’t shut out from watching football–so long as they have DirecTV and an NFL Sunday Ticket subscription. Provided they do, they can watch every NFL Sunday Ticket game on their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad in 720p. Customers can also watch the NFL Red Zone channel, which shows live scoring plays, and get real-time stats. Blackout rules apply, so you better hope your home team sells all its tickets. Sorry, St. Louis fans.

4. Yahoo Fantasy Football ’10 (Android, BlackBerry, iOS, webOS)
Fantasy football owners will like that this free app shows scores in real time, lets you change your roster right from your phone, and add and drop players who are underperforming. You can also look ahead to next week’s matchups.

5. CBS Sports Pro Football (Android, BlackBerry, iOS)
In addition to letting you get live NFL scores and news, this app lets you manage your CBSSports.com fantasy football team. This includes customized score updates for your team and league, roster mangement, and news about your players. “My Teams” also lets you get specific news and scores from the team of your choice. Users can also watch video clips of game previews, recaps, and interviews with players.

Hi… I don’t know if you’ve been making changes, but your pages aren’t displaying correctly for me. The edges of the text are running into each other. I didn’t do this Monday. I don’t know if it’s on my end or if you’ve made a change… Just thought you might want to look at it. Thanks! Jacqulyn Bidgood
