Hands-On With the Touchscreen MSI Wind U120H
January 8th, 2009 by Joanna Stern
MSI has unleashed a flurry of new Winds here at CES, but long promised was a touchscreen MSI Wind. And today we finally got a glimpse of the Wind U120H with a touch display. The Wind U120H as we have seen in our previous hands-on sports a different chassis than the original and on the particular U120H we saw today, the company has outfitted the system with a touch panel. Frankly, all MSI really did was slap a touch panel on the existing matte 1024 x 600 resolution display (maybe they followed JKK’s directions?). Unlike ASUS, the company isn’t going with a convertible form (or ‘netvertible’) on its touch-enabled netbook, at least for now. While MSI can’t really tout innovation here, we were still fairly impressed with the responsiveness of the screen. Light taps on the screen were responsive and using a finger to move through Windows XP’s folders and menus was smooth, without having to tap repeatedly. Other than that, there isn’t much else to say about the tablet performance. Check out the video below for a full walk-through of the touch experience. MSI isn’t set yet on bringing a touch-enabled Wind to market. We’d like to see a Wind with not only the responsive screen that we saw here, but some added touch features including a convertible form, an accelerometer, and added touch software.

What a pointless device. I can imagine myself overcoming the loathing for touching a display with my fingers, but I see no friggin’ sense in a touchscreen that can’t be treated like a e-book or a tablet. Why only ASUS thought of that?

I really like it and Joanna did a nice demonstration
Thank YOU ! Well I would like to ask for a review (as soon as possible) of the Dell Mini 10 !
I just want to say to Dell one thing. Don´t ruine your PCs by putting a limit on 1 GB of ram! It´s just not good. I was waiting so much for that Dell mini 12 and the thing just doesn´t work. What a mess! 1 Gb of ram? NOT ENOUGH!
