Samsung just showcased its new Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet along with two media-centric mobile devices, the Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 features a smaller 8.9-inch LCD touchscreen, runs Android Honeycomb, and will ship in 16MB ($469) and 32GB($569) flavors on October 2nd.

We spent some time playing with the new gadget at its launch event in New York. Virtually identical to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is much easier to grip and hold in one hand. While it’s not a Super AMOLED display like the company’s upcoming Galaxy S II line of smartphones or the European Galaxy Tab 7.7 inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab 8.9′s 8.9-inch (1,200 x 800) screen looked bright and had pretty wide viewing angles.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 also features Samsung’s TouchWiz interface that provides a clean, polished look and enables widgets which can be expanded or stretched to fit space on the home screen. Running a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU, the device comes in 16GB and 32GB flavors for $469 and $569 respectively. Samsung also announced the Galaxy Player 4.0 and Galaxy Player 5.0, both Android-based mobile products using Wi-Fi for connectivity. We can’t wait to check out these devices once we get a hold of them. Check out our hands-on video and gallery below and be sure to look for our in-depth review shortly.
