Hands-On with LG’s $2K, 18-Karat Gold Iron Man Phone
April 2nd, 2008 by Mark Spoonauer
How’s this for a luxury mobile? LG just announced the LG Tony Stark Ultimate Giveaway Sweepstakes for the upcoming Iron Man feature film. The prize? An LG Shines decked out in 18-karat gold.
This handset won’t be in the movie, but you can be sure that there will be plenty of other product placements. According to Unwired View, in the film Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) will be talking on Verizon’s LG VX9400 TV phone.
LG was kind enough to give us a few seconds with this ultra-premium slider, and it certainly looks and feels like it’s worth two grand. According to the press release announcing the Iron Man/LG tie-in, one element of the upcoming LG marketing plan will include a Web site that will offer consumers exclusive content from the film and behind-the-scenes footage of the making of Iron Man’s suit.
The suit itself is at LG’s booth.
Iron Man fans who visit the above site beginning April 15, 2008 will also have the chance to win special limited edition Iron Man/LG Shine handsets.
Check out the shiny photos below.

I won this phone through a magazine contest and plan to sell it for under the suggested retail price (the phone can not be sold in stores). I must admit that it is an awesome phone, but I am a little too nervous to carry it around (nor do I have AT&T). If you are seriously interested in buying the phone I will let it go for about $1750…. at least that’s where I planned to start the bidding on EBAY. Contact me if you would like to discuss. I have the phone in an official LG mini-briefcase with the charger, of course. There is a special pocket for the certificate. It is #32 of the 100 made.

Hope I have an opportunity to own it.
