Gracenote Unveils Unlimited Music Platform
January 8th, 2009 by Dana Wollman Today, Gracenote and Omnifone unveiled the Gracenote and Omnifone Solution, which, following a theme in this year’s wireless home entertainment category, allows users to integrate their music across as many devices as they want. First, some background: Gracenote is a subsidiary of Sony, and supplies the technology that recognizes track names when you, say, insert a CD in your laptop. Gracenote’s technology is already available in a variety of software programs, such as music players, as well as hardware in the home audio and car audio categories. Omnifone, which is the leading independent unlimited music service (its own partners include handset makers, the carrier Vodafone, among others). What does this all mean? Now Gracenote devices, including those automotive audio systems and the like, are part of Omnifone’s partner list. That means whatever Gracenote device you’re using, you can play and share your music. As the service is only being demoed at CES, Gracenote and Omnifone have not announced pricing or availability yet.
