gOS Cloud: A “Net”book Operating System Or Just An Instant On Environment

Straight out of the Netbook World Summit in Paris (unfortunately, we couldn’t attend), is an announcement of a new operating system. GOS the maker of the Linux OS on the Cloudbook, is debuting Cloud, a new open-source operating system that boots into a browser with Google, Yahoo and Windows Live within seconds. However, like Splashtop the OS can also be a pre-boot environment and users can optionally boot into a full Windows or Linux OS.

From the screenshots (see a better picture below), gOS Cloud features an full browser with a Mac OS like dock with shortcuts to favorite apps, tabs for multi-tasking between web and rich client apps, and icons to switch to Windows, power off, and perform other necessary system functions.

The new OS is being shown at the show on the Gigabyte M912 tablet netbook since the netbook will be preloaded with gOS Cloud and Windows XP together early next year.

And my hands on video should be online tonight :)

I saw video of it where David Liu says it’s not complete, or fully functional or something like that, which for gOS means it’s ready to install on hardware. The dock is an OK idea, but gOS is really lame about quality. I hope it works alright. gOS as ambassadors for Linux frightens me.
