Google Nexus One Spontaneously Cracks? Not So, Says HTC
March 5th, 2010 by Marc Flores
Ladies and germs, Exhibit A. What we have here is a Google Nexus One, made by HTC, that allegedly cracked all on its own while charging on a desk. The phone was sent to HTC for examination, and all it could come up with is that it could have been in a pair of tight jeans or tossed around in a purse. Either way, this seriously raises some eyebrows and reminds us of the video below.
The crack is under the screen and there are no scratches on top of the glass, so that indicates pressure or bending and not likely a blunt or sharp force to the glass. What strikes us as a bit odd is the fact that there is a definite and precise point of origin, so we feel that maybe someone might have made an oopsy and just didn’t want to fess up.
Before we get too presumptuous, it’s likely that charging could have caused this bad boy to overheat and crack. If so, definitely keep an eye out on your devices and notify Google and HTC if you experience the same thing. Aside from that, HTC tells you to be sensible about how to treat your gadgets, just in case.
Oddly, though, HTC proudly demonstrated the rigorous testing the Nexus One went through here:
