Google Nexus One Gets Multitouch Support – Updated with Video
February 2nd, 2010 by Kenneth Butler, LAPTOP Web Producer/Writer
Today Google announced it will begin supplying over-the-air OS updates with “some great new features” and fixes for Nexus One phones. Many times mobile software updates contain changes most users dismiss like so many unwanted phone calls, but included in Google’s surprise bundle of tweaks and alterations is a treat Nexus One owners will be excited by: multitouch support. That’s right, pinch-to-zoom navigation is coming to the phone’s web browser, photo gallery, and map application. Because the feature somehow escaped inclusion during Google’s initial release of the Nexus One – its first and only cell phone, and a flagship Android device – we’re sure plenty of folks are happy to never click that little magnifying button again when they want to enlarge or scale down a webpage. The Nexus One’s software update will also include: Google Maps – bumped up to version 3.4 which includes synchronization of starred locations with maps.google.com, search suggestions fueled by your previous venue or location hunts, and night mode viewing for Google Maps Navigation. Google Googles – the handy app for visual search will be installed on the device automatically. Just launch the camera and start shooting. 3G Connectivity – Google describes this as ” a general fix to help improve 3G connectivity on some Nexus One phones”. Those changes are spiffy and all, but the biggest news here is that the Motorola Droid is now the only Android 2.0 device without support for pinch-to-zoom navigation. Let’s hope Google does the honorable thing and shares this update with the Android phones it isn’t responsible for selling. Check it out on video here:

I bought a Droid because I supported Google’s openness and motto, “Don’t be evil”, but now I’m feeling screwed by Google! I guess they are so big now, they get to define what “evil” means
