Goal Zero Solar System Powers Phones, Devices With Sunlight
January 14th, 2011 by Brian Oliver Bennett, LAPTOP Senior Writer Stuck in the outback sans juice for your cell? Not to worry, the new Goal Zero Guide 10 Adventure Kit has you covered. Just announced at CES 2011 last week, the Guide 10 helps keep mobile devices powered up using a compact solar panel array and battery pack combo.
The Adventure Kit consists of two main parts. There’s a Nomad 7M solar panel that also sports a handy, folding, protective case with device pockets. The panel charges phones and other mobile products directly via USB port or 12 Volt DC charging port. Also included in the kit is a Guide 10 Battery Pack that relies on 4 rechargeable AA batteries.
Goal Zero says that the panel will fully charge the battery pack in 4 hours while in strong sunlight. The pack, the company claims, also provides 7-10 hours of runtime for a typical smart phone. The Adventure Kit runs for $139.99 and is expected to hit store shelves in March of 2011.
