Gateway Rolls Out New TC Notebook Line

February 19th, 2009 by Joanna Stern

gatewaytcDon’t mess with a good thing seems to be Gateway’s new mantra. Last summer, the company first rolled out its 16 inch MC Series with a new automotive-inspired chassis, then shrunk it down to create its 15.4 MD Series and today has cropped it even further into the 14 inch TC Series.

Priced at $649.99, the TC Series is still aimed at multimedia users with its 14-inch 1366×768 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio wide screen.  The TC Series is available in two colors, burgundy and black, and features a textured palm rest.

The first models, the TC7306u in black and the TC7307u in burgundy both sport the  same value-focused configuration; they are equipped with an 2.0GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile T4200 processor, 4GB of RAM and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M. It will have a 8x DVDRW w/ DVD-RAM drive and a 320GB hard drive. They both come with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium and a 6-cell Lithium Ion battery.

According to the press release, the case has been trimmed down a bit and is 5.3-pounds. Other features include a the same touch multimedia controls found on the MD Series, a 1.3 megapixel webcam,  802.11b/g Draft-N wireless. It has 3 USB ports, a 5-in-1 media card reader, Ethernet, and a mic and headphone.

Like the MC and MD Series, the TC doesnt have a Blu-ray option at this point but is capable of supporting one as well as dedicated Nvidia GeForce 9300M graphics.
