One of our biggest complaints about Samsung’s Galaxy S4 was that its plastic chassis made it feel cheap compared to the likes of the HTC One and Apple’s iPhone 5s. And unfortunately, if recent rumors hold true, Samsung’s encore performance will feature a similar design.
According to Know Your Mobile, Samsung’s rumored Galaxy S5 will offer the same construction and body styling as the Galaxy Note 3, right down to its faux leather back panel. That runs counter to previous rumors, which indicated that Samsung would step up its game for the S5 and use an all-metal body.

If the rumor proves true, it would certainly be a letdown for fans of the Korean handset maker. That’s not to say the Note 3’s design is bad as the phablet offered a more premium feel and styling than the S4. But when matched up to other high-end handsets, it falls flat.
If Samsung does indeed use a plastic body for the S5, it could be to help keep the rumored smartphone’s weight down. The all-aluminum, 4.7-inch HTC One, for example, weighs a rather chunky 5 ounces compared to the 5-inch Galaxy S4’s 4.6 ounces.
In addition to rumors about the Galaxy S5’s chassis, there have also been rumblings that the handset will include an eye scanner rather than a fingerprint reader and pack in a 64-bit processor. There is also speculation that the Galaxy S5 will make its debut in January, though that seems a bit less likely than the other rumors, as that would entail Samsung deviating from its current releases cycle.
